Belt Sizing Systems Explained

US (Letter Sizes)

Letter-based sizing from XS to 3XL. The most common system for off-the-rack belts in the United States. Each letter size spans a range of 2-4 inches in waist measurement.

Numeric (Inches)

Based on your waist measurement in inches, in even numbers from 28 to 50. This is the most precise US sizing system and is used by most leather belt manufacturers.

European (EU)

Based on the waist measurement in centimeters, rounded to the nearest 5. Used across continental Europe. Sizes typically range from 70 to 125.

UK (Inches)

Same as numeric US sizing, based on waist measurement in inches. Used in the United Kingdom, and generally matches US numeric sizes directly.

Belt Sizing Tips

1.

Order 2 inches larger than your pants size. A belt size is typically 2 inches larger than your trouser waist size. If you wear size 34 pants, try a size 36 belt.

2.

Measure an existing belt. Lay a belt you wear comfortably flat and measure from the buckle pin to the hole you use most often.

3.

The middle hole is ideal. A properly sized belt should fasten at the middle hole, giving you room to adjust tighter or looser.

4.

Consider belt width and style. Dress belts (25-30mm) are typically worn higher on the waist, while casual belts (35-40mm) sit at the hips. This can affect the size you need.

5.

Leather belts stretch over time. New leather belts will loosen slightly with wear. Consider sizing down if you are between sizes, especially with full-grain leather.
